Okua

A mid-20th Century Nigerian mask made by the Idoma people. Okua masks are used to pay respect for elders at funerals. They draw power from the bush spirit known as “Anjenu” who lives in the river and is honored by the dance. Scarifications and white teeth in an open mouth are typical.

Wood, studs, Swarovski crystal, mink, glitter, gold leaf, pheasant and jungle cock feathers
